Q: How long will my home energy audit take?
A: A home energy audit generally lasts from two to four hours. During this time, a Wilson Comfort and Indoor Air Quality consultant will do a visual inspection of the living space, attic, basement (or crawl spaces), and perform a series of tests using special diagnostic equipment.
Q: How much will it cost?
A: The cost of the energy audit is minimal but its long-time effect can pay big dividends. Once we identify improvements, we can connect you with the Keystone Home Energy Loan Program (Keystone HELP). This program provides qualifying Pennsylvania homeowners with low-cost loans for energy-saving improvements, including high-efficiency heating, central air conditioning, air sealing, insulation, windows, doors, geothermal and “whole house” improvements using Home Performance with Energy Star.
Q: Can I watch what you do during the audit?
A: Absolutely. We encourage this. As you accompany our consultant, let him know about any issues or concerns you have in different rooms (drafts, uneven temperatures, musty smell, etc.).
Q: What improvements can save me the most energy?
A: While every home is different, our experience in doing hundreds of audits and improvements shows that some of the best investments are sealing gaps, cracks and other leaks that let outside air into your home; adding insulation in the attic; sealing and insulating air ducts that run through attics or crawl spaces; and repairing or replacing old or poorly functioning heating and cooling systems and appliances.
