Betsy and David O'Connell

Dear Friends,

No business can survive as an independent family-run operation for 90 years without doing things a certain way. This includes always putting customers first while offering great products and excellent services at fair prices.

We also couldn’t have made it to our 90th anniversary in business without our dedicated team of hardworking employees, who allow us to offer the kind of reliable and caring service you have come to expect from us.

As we look back on all these years of taking care of our friends and neighbors, we can’t help but look forward also. Obviously, we could not have survived and grown purely by offering good old-fashioned customer service. We have always embraced change, adopting innovative technologies to make sure we could serve you better and make your home more comfortable.

It may all have started with us making coal and heating-oil deliveries, but today we are a total home energy company providing a broad range of services to improve your comfort while helping you save money. Whether it’s keeping your equipment running optimally or making an emergency repair, we put your comfort first. We have your back with services designed to be convenient and give peace of mind, such as service plans, automatic deliveries, online account access and much more.

As we celebrate another new year in business, we look forward to helping you stay warm and comfortable this winter, and we look forward to continuing to grow and serve you and your family for many more years to come. Thank you for your trust and loyalty.

Warmly,
David and Betsy O’Connell

Chris Manning

On the day we talked with Chris Manning, he had just finished delivering a load of fuel from the refinery to the Wilson Oil bulk fuel storage facility.

As a driver with a Class A commercial driver’s license and a hazmat endorsement, Chris is Wilson’s go-to guy for keeping fuel in the big tanks, but he is also much more.

In fact, Chris does a little bit of everything at Wilson, from making household fuel deliveries to installing tanks, lines and heating and air conditioning systems.

Chris loves the variety that his job affords, but when spring comes, he looks forward to the weekend, when he and his wife hit the road with friends on group motorcycle rides.

Street bend

This is the time of year when you want to stay comfortable, avoid problems and save money. To help you keep from getting lost, we offer a few tips.

tips to avoid a bumpy ride

We want to make sure you’re getting the most out of your heating system. Here are a few tips on how to keep it running safely and efficiently.

Elderly testimonial

  • Keep the area around your system as clean and clutter-free as possible. Never store anything flammable near your system.
  • Keep registers clean and unobstructed to ensure maximum air flow.
  • Change or clean the filters about once a month. Dust and dirt are the natural enemies of your furnace; a dirty filter compromises efficiency and can even result in a shutdown.
  • Install carbon monoxide (CO) detectors in your home, following the manufacturer’s instructions about location and maintenance.

“I now have a smart thermostat that lets me know when it’s time to replace filters or schedule equipment maintenance. This means less things I have to remember.”

smooth road ahead for home comfort

Technology has brought us vast improvements in home comfort and energy efficiency, and you can expect to see even more exciting innovations on the road ahead. Just consider what’s happening right now.

  • Home performance services continue to rise in demand because homeowners want to make their homes as energy efficient as possible. (Making recommended improvements after a home performance audit saves the average homeowner 30% on annual energy costs.)
  • The emphasis on “green design” continues with a strong focus on indoor air quality throughout the design and construction of new homes. This includes a technique known as “demand controlled ventilation,” which reduces energy consumption while maintaining proper indoor air quality.
  • Mobile, wireless programmable thermostats are becoming a common feature. Many people now use their smartphones to program their thermostat when they’re away from home.
  • More homeowners are going green by installing energysaving, earth-friendly geothermal heat pump systems.
  • The use of integrated controls — combining heating, cooling, and indoor air quality with electronic air filters and zoning — is also contributing to better home comfort and energy savings.

Remember, we’re here for you year-round! So don’t wait until it gets too warm this year before getting your cooling system checked and serviced. If you have an old system — and high energy bills — we’ll be glad to tell you about the latest options in high-efficiency cooling equipment that uses environmentally friendly refrigerant.

your destination: comfort and savings

With all that you have to deal with during the winter, the last thing you want is to lose sleep over concerns that your old furnace or heat pump is going to conk out and leave you cold.

When you purchase a new high-efficiency heating system, you’ll immediately eliminate those worries.

You’ll save a lot of money down the road too. A new system should help you save up to 20% on your annual heating costs. If you significantly improve system efficiency by upgrading from a really old system to a high-efficiency unit, your savings could be 40% or more! You’ll feel the difference in comfort. And you’ll also save on repairs, because you’ll minimize the potential of a breakdown, which is a common problem with older systems.

The high-efficiency heating and cooling systems we install use substantially less energy than the less efficient models from the past. These modern systems have gone a long way to making a home more energy efficient, more comfortable and more environmentally friendly.

Air cleaning system

Over the years, there has been a troubling rise in the rates of respiratory illnesses like asthma. At one point, it was believed that this could be traced to outdoor air pollution. But more studies confirmed that the real problem is indoor air pollution.

Today, there are sophisticated techniques for analyzing indoor air quality, including the collection of air samples and computer modeling of air flow inside a home. These techniques allow us to understand the reasons why the air inside a home is unhealthy and help us to offer strategies for improvement, including air cleaning systems, air purifiers and humidification systems. Stale indoor air can also be replaced with fresh, clean air from outdoors with a device called an air-to-air exchanger.

Please contact us if you would like us to analyze your home’s indoor air.

Thunder storm

Installing a backup generator is a smart move — and a great investment in your safety and comfort! A whole-house generator will switch on automatically when the power goes out, keeping your lights, heat and appliances running — and your phones charged — until the utilities can get power lines repaired.

A generator provides peace of mind even when you’re away from home, since it keeps your security system running and protects you from expensive damage, such as frozen water pipes.

A propane generator is a great option. It starts easily even in extreme cold (unlike gasoline, which can degrade over time and thicken at low temperatures).

Visit our generator page for more details or call us today.

Tundra

Don’t let a snowy or icy driveway prevent us from making a delivery to you this season. Navigating fuel trucks on steep driveways is one of our biggest obstacles in the winter. Safety codes prohibit us from parking on an incline unless it is clear of snow and ice.

Please also remember to keep a clear path to your oil fill pipe or propane tank after a snowfall. This makes it easier for our drivers to get fuel to you when you need it the most.

To avoid running out of fuel, call us when your tank is at about a quarter full. You can eliminate the worry of watching your tank by switching to automatic deliveries. Please visit our page for more details about this service and call us to enroll — at no charge.

Do You Need Air Conditioning Maintenance?

Air Conditioning Preventative Maintenance Makes a Difference! While early spring normally is too chilly to begin doing cooling tune-ups for our customers, there’s nothing wrong with booking your preventive maintenance service in advance so you can beat the warm weather rush. While the minimum outdoor temperature varies between models, it usually needs to be in the 60°F range before we start going out to do tune-ups. That’s because parts of your air conditioning system—including the refrigerant—are not designed to work below a certain temperature. How Important Is Annual A/C Maintenance? After a long hibernation over the fall and winter, your […]
