How To Reduce Allergens in Your Home

Posted: April 11, 2022

Another Pollen Season Is Here

It is estimated that more than 50 million people in our country have allergies. But if you’re especially sensitive, every day can be considered allergy season, especially if you react to such triggers as dust mites, mold, and pet dander. However, some allergens—specifically pollens– are seasonal.

These include tree pollen in early spring, grass pollen in late spring, weed pollen in summer, and ragweed pollen in late summer and early fall.

Don’t Skip Maintenance on Your HVAC Equipment

Did you know that the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system in your home can produce and spread mold as well as circulate other allergens? That’s why maintaining your HVAC systems is key to keeping your home air healthy. If you haven’t done it yet this year, schedule your air conditioning maintenance in preparation for the cooling season.

Change or Clean Your Air Filter Regularly

Keeping your air conditioning clean, especially the air filter, can make a big difference in managing your allergy symptoms. Follow the manufacturer’s filter cleaning and maintenance instructions to minimize exposure to allergens from your HVAC system.

Be sure to use the right filter for your equipment –consult your owner’s manual to find the range of filters that is right for your cooling system. If you need help figuring out which filter works best for your needs, reach out to us.
