Celebrated annually on April 22, Earth Day got its start because Americans were becoming more aware of the harmful effects our actions had on the planet. The year before Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970, a large fire erupted on the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland because a spark ignited industrial debris floating on the surface. This incident, along with other events, further fueled a growing movement across the country that not only led to the initial Earth Day, but to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency. At Wilson Oil and Propane, we consider every day Earth Day. We’re committed to taking aggressive steps to address climate change and our company has invested significantly to do exactly that. We’ve converted our fuel from traditional heating oil to Bioheat Plus® fuel, with a 20% renewable component. Bioheat Plus® fuel dramatically decreases emissions and we plan to increase our renewable percentage soon. Read more about Bioheat fuel. [Link to: https://wilsonoilandpropane.com/heating-oil/]
With propane, we’re also proud to provide a fuel that produces next-to-zero greenhouse gas emissions or air pollutants, making it a cleaner-burning energy source. It can reliably and efficiently heat homes and water, fuel multiple indoor and outdoor appliances and even power vehicles.
In fact, we run the majority of our vehicle fleet on propane autogas. In doing so, we have already displaced tens of thousands of gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel, which produce far more emissions than propane autogas. We also help local businesses go green by setting them up with a propane autogas dispensing station on their property, or scheduling regular on-site fueling by our delivery trucks.

On the residential side, if you use propane appliances instead of electric ones, you’re doing your part to help the environment. Propane is one of the cleanest carbon-based fuels! Because of that, the average propane-powered home reduces carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 30% compared to all-electric homes. What’s more, direct use of propane for space heating, water heating, cooking and clothes drying reduces greenhouse gas emissions up to 50%.
