Most people don’t realize that propane is friendlier to the environment than electricity? Propane is clean burning and highly efficient and is a green fuel before combustion as well as after it is used. Since propane is not toxic it will not harm the environment if it is released into the atmosphere and is not classified as a greenhouse gas.
Comparing the operation of a propane tankless water heater with an electric water heater highlights the difference in the two energy sources. Very little fuel is wasted in the combustion process in a propane tankless water heater. Compare this with approximately two-thirds of the energy used by a power plant to generate and transmit electricity for an electric water heater that goes to waste.
In addition, compared to an electric storage tank water heater, a propane tankless water heater produces about 50% less carbon emissions. A tankless water heater also enables you to prevent wasteful “standby losses” you get with the typical electric storage water heater that heats water that may not be needed. And since a propane tankless system delivers a virtually endless supply of hot water, you’ll never get trapped in a cold shower again.
