In our previous post, we focused on the many uses of clean-burning propane, which we are proud to deliver. Now, we’re putting the focus on another clean-burning fuel that we deliver to many customers in the Delaware Valley: clean, renewable Bioheat Plus® fuel.
This is a clean alternative to conventional heating oil, and our B20 blend produces fewer greenhouse gas emissions than natural gas. As ultra-low sulfur Bioheat fuel becomes more widespread in the coming years, home heating oil will move closer and closer to becoming a carbon-neutral fuel. This and other innovations within the industry will help to keep Bioheat fuel as a leader in America’s energy evolution.
Bioheat fuel is a mix of ultra-low-sulfur heating oil and biodiesel, which is made from renewable resources like animal fats, plant oils, algae and recycled cooking oils. Made in the United States, Bioheat fuel supports local farms and local economies.
Bioheat fuel requires no modifications to your system, no big expenditure on new equipment and reduces your carbon footprint. Plus, our efficient and clean-burning Bioheat Plus fuel—which has a 20% biodiesel blend— saves you money on fuel and equipment service. It also burns cleaner than natural gas because it generates fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Methane—the main component of natural gas—has the capacity to trap so much heat in the atmosphere that over one century, one ton of this gas causes 32 times as much warming as one ton of carbon dioxide.*
Because Bioheat fuel is so clean-burning, you’ll get higher efficiency from your home’s heating system. With today’s high-efficiency oil furnaces and oil boilers, you could reach efficiencies of 90% or higher. Heating oil gets your home warmer faster than natural gas or any other fuel.
A heating-oil-fired furnace or boiler can last about 25 years, while the life expectancy of a natural gas furnace or boiler can be as little as 10 years.
Bioheat fuel is better for heating systems because it burns cleaner and leaves fewer deposits on heat exchangers. That means fewer breakdowns and a longer life for your furnace or boiler.
When the utility companies try to persuade people to convert from oil to natural gas, there’s never much talk about safety. That’s because, hands down, heating oil with a biofuel mix is the much safer fuel option.
With heating oil, you can safely store fuel on your property with no dependence on underground pipelines. Heating oil cannot explode—even if you drop a lit match into it. Heating oil is also much safer in the case of a carbon monoxide leak because you will get a warning sign about a malfunction—unlike with natural gas.
With heating oil, you’re not dependent on gas pipelines to keep your home warm. When you have natural gas, you’re dealing with a utility company. Usually, that means a far-away office where you’re just an account number in their massive database. Wilson Oil and Propane is locally owned and locally based. We’re proud to offer safe, reliable heating oil deliveries backed by our friendly, personalized service.
Founded in 1926, Wilson Oil and Propane strives to provide excellent service to our customers every single day. In addition to prompt, professional expert HVAC services, heating oil and propane delivery, we offer our customers many ways to lower their energy costs and enhance their comfort.
