Seasonal humidity can affect your home’s comfort level and managing the humidity in your home during all seasons is important. Having the right moisture level in your home ensures that your HVAC systems are performing efficiently. The appropriate humidity levels help your home feel cool in the summer and warm in the winter. If proper humidity levels are not maintained, your home will feel uncomfortable and you may also become susceptible to respiratory disorders. Too much or too little humidity can also cause damage to the inside and outside of your home.
Normal functions, such as steam produced by showering or cooking, can impact your home’s humidity levels. During the summer months removing unwanted moisture in your home is a primary function of your home’s air conditioning system. In some cases, your air conditioning system may not be enough to remove the excess moisture that comes into your home. During the summer months, or in warmer climates, removing moisture, or dehumidification, becomes a priority.
During colder months you may face the opposite problem if your home’s humidity becomes too low. This can cause skin irritations, dried out sinuses, damage to hardwood floors and furniture and general discomfort. Regardless of how you heat your home, whether you have a heat pump or a gas, oil, or electric furnace, a whole-house humidification system can be a good solution to help your manage your home humidity levels.
To address problems in your home humidity levels, you may need additional equipment, such as a whole home ventilation system or a humidification system. These systems are designed to increase your home comfort and decrease your risk of humidity related health issues.
