Heating maintenance

Over the years, many people new to Wilson Oil and Propane have discovered that they didn’t have to replace their entire heating (or cooling) system to feel more comfortable and save money on energy. They just needed to call us in so we could do a complete evaluation of their equipment and then correct flaws. Here’s why this is more common than you might think.

Energy-efficiency ratings for heating and cooling systems are calculated in a laboratory setting. But when those systems get installed in a home, those efficiency ratings can drop drastically if the contractor does not install the system according to manufacturer specifications. Failure by the homeowner to maintain their equipment properly can reduce energy efficiency further.

In fact, a study of over 1,000 homes across the country showed that consumers were short-changed on energy efficiency because of a poor equipment installation and lax maintenance.*

After adjustments were made to correct problems, efficiency improved, on average, a whopping 36%! This was accomplished by:

  • cleaning and adjusting the system
  • correcting installation flaws, including the ductwork
  • sealing the ductwork to prevent air leaks
  • improving other areas of the home where air leaks caused significant energy losses

If you feel your system isn’t working properly or you think you’re spending too much on heating and cooling, please contact us and we’ll be glad to evaluate both your equipment and your home. A few fixes may just save you money on heat or air conditioning and keep you more comfortable for many years to come!
