House is either too hot or too cold

Having those rooms in your house that always seem hotter or colder than others can be annoying, especially if you’re paying for a system that isn’t functioning as efficiently as it could. A room or two that’s warmer or cooler than the rest of the house is a common problem.

Our Wilson Home Performance Evaluation is a comprehensive top-to-bottom assessment of your home and its systems. Your evaluation starts with an appointment with one of our experts. We’ll find out from you whether any rooms in your home feel clammy when your air conditioner runs, don’t heat or cool properly, or if any parts of your house need to be dusted more frequently than others.

We’ll inspect your heating and cooling equipment for deterioration, improper installation, or insufficient maintenance, and take a look at insulation levels throughout your home. And we’ll look for hidden defects and also check your ductwork as well.

Once your evaluation is complete, we’ll explain the results and give you a plan of recommended improvements, if needed. Many can be performed by homeowners as weekend projects. Other improvements may require professionals.

For instance, your home might have insufficient insulation, or leaking air may be sneaking out through windows and doors. Air ducts can experience a number of issues, such as a clog or block. Any obstruction will make the flow of air difficult.

Sometimes, one room that can’t keep up with others is at a weak spot in the system; its ducts have more bends than the others or it receives more sunlight or shade than other areas of the house. Likewise, windows and wind current can greatly effect a room’s temperature.
