Q: Why do estimates for the same equipment vary so much from company to company?
A: Equipment estimates vary because installations can be done in many ways. A quality installation with quality materials costs more than run-of-the-mill work done by inexperienced technicians. Installation is the easiest area in which a contractor can cut corners and cheat customers. Few consumers know how to install home comfort systems, so it’s very easy for an unscrupulous contractor to use substandard materials, skip permit applications and fail to comply with city and state building codes. This is the kind of thing that makes it possible for a company to make low estimates. It can also result in the waste of an expensive comfort system that doesn’t properly heat or cool a home because of a poor installation. Another way some companies cut installation costs is by using inexperienced or uncertified installers. Let’s face it, it’s a lot cheaper to have high school shop students fix your car than a mechanic with 30 years of experience. But whose work would you trust more?

Q: Is annual maintenance necessary?
A: Yes! Heating and air conditioning systems operate for months on end and need regular maintenance just like your car. Without regular maintenance you’ll lose efficiency and money. Regular maintenance keeps your systems working at peak efficiency and gives our technicians a chance to catch minor wear and tear before it turns into major trouble down the road. An annual tune-up also protects your family by helping prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Plus, annual maintenance can extend the life of your equipment.

Q: My comfort systems are working just fine. Why should I spend money on a tune-up?
A: Savings, protection, equipment longevity and your family's safety.

A heating tune-up keeps your burner working efficiently, which can cut annual energy use by as much as 10%, it also ensures that your system is operating safely, which helps prevent hazardous levels of carbon monoxide.

A cooling tune-up can reduce energy use by even more than 10%. That's because we check your system's coolant level when we do our a/c tune-up; if your coolant is even 10% low, it can boost air conditioning bills by 20%.

Tune-ups give our technicians a chance to catch signs of minor wear and tear before they turn into costly inconvenient repairs.

The regular maintenance of an annual tune-up prevents breakdowns, and it extends equipment  life.

Q: How do I know what size furnace or air conditioning system to install?
A: Unless you have many years of experience in the HVAC industry, chances are you won’t be able to figure out what size system is best suited for your home. The experts at Wilson will be happy to come to your home and calculate your heating and cooling "loads." They will then be able to recommend a system that is the correct size and model to meet your home’s requirements. Please see our Service page for more information or to request a free estimate. You may also call us for more details.
