we’re making changes based on your feedback
Dear Friends,

This proved to be one of our most challenging years ever for purchasing oil. As prices spiked beyond $5 a gallon last summer—and with dire predictions about things getting even worse—we signed supply contracts earlier than usual so we could protect you against this unprecedented surge, as did many of our full service competitors.
what we’ve already done
At first, our prices stayed in line with the market and most of our customers were comfortable with our decision. Crude oil prices soared to a record high of $147 a barrel in early July. If crude oil had remained at that level, it would have resulted in retail heating oil prices topping $6 or quite possibly $7 per gallon. But then, the stock market crashed, the global recession hit and fuel prices dropped much lower than anyone would have predicted.

While we did lower prices over 80 cents per gallon from the beginning of the year, we didn’t have the extra padding to lower prices as much as we would have liked without putting the company at risk or being sued by our suppliers for breach of contract. I’m truly sorry about the way this year turned out for and for us.
what we’re doing now
I can’t blame you for wanting to pay less for your heating oil. I’m just as unhappy as you are about this. I’ve discussed this situation with many of you and based on your feedback—which included your request for more pricing options—we are making changes.

We will mail you complete details soon, but I wanted to give you a few highlights right now.
We are coming toward the end of our supplier contracts and will have more pricing flexibility going forward.
You will soon be able to visit our website, log in to your account, see the cap price for that day (prices will change daily) and decide for yourself if the time is right to cap your price for next season. No more enrollment deadlines!
Another option will be to pay the daily posted price. Or you can pay your bills monthly with Service Advantage and we’ll give you a 10-cent-per-gallon discount off the daily posted price.
I know times are tough for many of you and every dollar counts. You have my word that we have your best interests at heart, and we are doing everything we can to keep your costs under control. I wouldn’t want to do business any other way.
Best wishes,
David O’Connell

We’ll consolidate your billing for propane and oil into one convenient monthly statement. Contact us today so we can show you all the ways you can save money and make life easier with Wilson as your propane supplier.
protect against power outages
Because power grids today are increasingly overloaded, power failures are occurring more frequently. Remember the massive blackout of August 2003? Some 40 million people in eight states were left in the dark. That’s why an increasing number of homeowners are

protecting themselves against a prolonged power outage by investing in a whole-house generator. Located outside your home, the propane-powered generators we install can provide electricity for your entire home. Heating and cooling systems keep running, lights stay on and food stays cold in your refrigerator. With summer not far off, now’s the time to invest in the peace of mind a whole-house generator can bring. Call us today or return the enclosed reply card.

big savings with a hybrid system
Among the energy-efficient systems we install are hybrid heating systems. They combine a high-efficiency heat pump with a high-efficiency oil or propane furnace. Here’s how it works. In the winter, the heat pump keeps you warm when temperatures are moderate. This can reduce your heating costs by 25%, compared with relying exclusively on the oil or propane furnace. If temperatures get frigid, the furnace becomes your backup heat source, ensuring your comfor—on the coldest days and through the coldest nights. In the summer, the heat pump cools your home. It can cut your electric costs substantially if you currently have an older cooling system. To learn more, call us, return the enclosed card or visit our website at WilsonOilandPropane.com.
all the hot water you want
If you aren’t getting enough hot water from your electric water heater or you find yourself struggling with high electric bills every month, here’s a solution. Convert to a propane water heater.
One option is a propane tankless water heater from Noritz. It heats water quickly, providing as much hot water as you need and want. The unit incorporates an on-demand system that stops heating water when the water supply is cut off (when you turn off your faucets). It’s a design that means big energy savings. Noritz tankless water heaters are up to 50% more efficient than standard gas water heaters. And they’re up to 70% more efficient than electric water heaters.
Call, return the enclosed card or visit our website to learn more about your water heating options.

purchase a new system now
and save thousands!
Installing energy-efficient equipment is one of the smartest investments you can make, and there has never been a better time to purchase a new system.

Thanks to the federal stimulus bill, you may be eligible for a $1,500 tax credit on qualifying heating and cooling systems. For example, if you spend $5,000 on a new system this year, you can deduct 30% of the cost—by claiming a $1,500 credit on your 2010 federal income tax form.
To sweeten the pot, we are offering money-saving deals on new systems. Call us today to find out how you can install a high-efficiency Carrier furnace or central air system and get up to $1,700 back in cash rebates.
A new comfort system can cut energy costs by 30% or more. Combine the energy savings with the Carrier rebate and the $1,500 tax credit, and you can see the great deal you’re getting.

We’d be happy to schedule a FREE no-obligation visit for you with one of our comfort consultants. Just call us, return the enclosed card or visit WilsonOilandPropane.com.
stay tuned for efficiency
As you probably know, regular tune-ups not only cut energy use and heating bills. They lower the chance of a breakdown too.

This is true for cooling tune-ups as well as heating tune-ups. If you have a service agreement, your cooling tune-up is included. We will contact you soon so we can service your system before summer and our busy cooling season. Or, feel free to contact us to make a convenient appointment.

ask the expert
Q: I’ve heard something about Freon being phased out for air conditioners soon. How will this affect me if I want to buy a new a/c system?
A: For decades, R-22 (better known as Freon) has been the standard refrigerant for air conditioners and heat pumps. However, R-22 contains chlorine, which has been proven to harm the Earth’s ozone layer. As a result, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has mandated that, as of Jan. 1, 2010, R-22 can no longer be used in new cooling systems. Chemical manufacturers, however, may still produce R-22 for the servicing of existing equipment. This exemption will end in 2010. Supplies of R-22 will then have to come from recovered and recycled sources, which means a rise in its cost. A chlorine-free refrigerant, R-410A (Puron), is now available. The shift to this environmentally-friendly refrigerant has required a redesign of air conditioning equipment and heat pumps. Because of these changes, it’s important to work
with a company like us. Our team is well-trained and EPA-certified to install and service this new generation of cooling equipment.
